Maenam Beach on Koh Samui

Maenam Beach on Koh Samui in Thailand is one of the most beautiful beaches on the popular holiday island. This endlessly golden sandy beach, with the countless palm trees, the clean sea, and the beautiful hotels and bungalows right on the beach, has always been a magnet for travelers. Although the idyllic dream beach is no longer an insider tip anymore, the atmosphere is still really relaxed and tranquil. It’s the perfect beach in Koh Samui for all who would love to spend a quiet and chilled beach holiday in Thailand. In addition, one finds in the area amazing things to do and cool excursion possibilities.

In this blog post, you will get all the important information about the heavenly Maenam Beach on Koh Samui. In addition, we share some fantastic pictures, and useful tips and experiences about nightlife, best accommodations, and what are the best things to do.

The Maenam Beach

Located in the north of Koh Samui, just off Bophut Beach is Maenam Beach. With palm trees, as in the South Seas and a length of 4 kilometers, it is one of the ultimate beach paradises on the popular holiday island. Due to its length, this dream beach is ideal for long beach walks, and the warm sea is perfect for swimming and sunbathing.

Here on Maenam there is no annoying boat rickety, no loud music, parties or tourist crowds. In return you can enjoy a breathtakingly beautiful tropical beach scenery, as directly out from a travel magazine. Although it is quieter than, for example the lively Chaweng Beach or the neighboring Bophut Beach, there’s still everything on-site to make the holidaymaker’s heartbeat faster. On the beach there are always opportunities for a relaxing massage, nice restaurants and cozy, sometimes really quaint bars. In addition, most of the accommodations and bungalows are right on the beach and so you always enjoy wonderful sea views. On the main street there are supermarkets, there is a 7-eleven, ATM, post office and exchange offices. A bit in the hinterland is even the Samui Immigration Office, in case you want to extend your visa.

Nightlife, markets & restaurants

Although Maenam Beach is not really famous for its nightlife, you will still find some nice locations for having some drinks. It’s the perfect place to chill out, marvel at the perfect sunset and spend some chilling evening hours with friends and family. Most of these quaint bars are right on the beach, such as the legendary Black Rose Bar in the western section or the cozy Nature Bar, which is located in the middle of the beach. But also in the center, in the area around the Chao Eng Sae Shrine, there are some nice locations for good food and for enjoying some cocktails.

Another highlight is the weekly Walking Street which is taking place in Maenam. This cool night market takes place every Thursday from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Here you have the opportunity to taste the local Thai cuisine and you can shop until you trop. It’s a paradise for bargain hunters, because the Maenam Walking Street offers plenty of cheap souvenirs, arts and crafts, clothes and jewelry.

As insider tip for visiting a local market you should check out the Mae Nam Morning Market. This fresh food market takes place daily from 4:00 am to 10:00 am. The authentic marketplace sells fresh fruits, vegetables, food and street food. A great experience to get in touch with authentic Thai life.

Things to do on Koh Samui

There are plenty of things to do in and around Maenam Beach. In general, the island Koh Samui offers a wide range of great excursions and activities. The island’s main temples, the Big Buddha and Plai Laem Temple are just 9 km from Maenam Beach. They are among the most beautiful temples of Koh Samui and a visit is highly recommended. Another must visit, just around the corner from Maenam Beach (4 kilometers), is the Bophut beach with its famous Fishermans Village.

In addition to markets and temples, there are many more amazing things to do on Koh Samui: thundering waterfalls, deep jungles, elephants, mystical gardens and even mummified monks are on the island to discover. But also a snorkel trip to the island of Koh Tao or the Angthong Marine National Park is a great experience.
