Things To Do Around Ko Phra Thong

Ko Phra Thong is definitely an island made for desolation, a place to leave all your worries behind and to find inner peace in the vast emptiness. Where you can roam around by bike through the flat savannah and meditate to the silence, with only the sound of the wind and birds chirping in the distance. Where you can walk for kilometers of wide-open undeveloped beaches without seeing another soul. The sound of silence might even take some time to get used after the hectic chaos of places like Chang Mai, Bangkok, or Phuket, where the endless sound of motorbikes and traffic never stops.
Secluded Beaches
Unlike the crowded beaches in Phuket and Phang Nga Bay, you’ll find Ko Phra Thong to be empty and secluded. And the best part is that you don’t have to travel too far from places like Krabi and Phuket to get here. It’s true that the seawater isn’t as turquoise blue, but it’s just as warm and swimmable, and plus you won’t have to compete for a nice spot on the beach! The beaches in Ko Phra Thong are also nesting places for sea turtles, which is one of the few places left in Thailand because of the overdevelopment in other areas.
Explore the Island
If you get tired of lounging around the beautiful beaches, rent yourself a bike, and explore the island. While the island is flat, you can find plenty to do, like spotting the lesser adjutant stork, one of the few places left in the world where you can spot this endangered bird. You can also check out the little town of Ta Pae Yoe, where unlike touristy places like Phuket, you’ll find villagers that aren’t used to seeing tourists year-round and are happy to see you and offer friendly advice.
Ko Phra Thong is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the more known places around Thailand. Check out this desolate island before tourists move in and the sea turtles and endangered storks move out!
